Justice Programs
The Safer Families program is available to individuals who have been referred by the Department of Justice. All individuals participating in this program are currently under the supervision from the Department of Justice.
About the Program
Safer Families was created in collaboration with the Department of Justice and provides mandated group intervention for perpetrators of family and domestic violence, living in the South West region, and currently case managed through Adult Community Corrections. The primary aim of the program is to assist men in understanding and addressing harmful behaviour patterns that impact their families, to increase self-awareness regarding the consequences of their actions, to equip participants with emotional regulation skills, and to foster the adoption of healthy, non-abusive pro-social behaviors.
The program employs a multi-theoretical approach to perpetrator intervention, incorporating evidence-based methodologies such as groupwork sessions focused on information dissemination, skill-building exercises, conflict resolution strategies, and psychoeducation aimed at raising awareness of the impact of harm. Safer Families is delivered over 75 hours, across 30 sessions, and usually delivered twice per week.
Central to the program's ethos is the critical importance of working effectively with victim survivors and their children who are impacted by men's violence. Through dedicated family safety contact work, the program ensures that victim survivors and their children receive the support, information, assistance, and referrals needed to navigate the challenges and risks throughout the program and for three months post program exit where required.
